Taiwan's ITer has launched
the PS-3400 Bluetooth GPS receiver, which uses Nemerix's ultra low-power
GPS module. It supports -15dBm tracking sensivity.
There are more than 150
GPS receiver suppliers in Taiwan, and the number is expected to rise in
the near term. The major GPS receiver makers in Taiwan include Leadtek
Research Inc., Globalsat Technology Corp., Fortuna Electronic Corp. and
Holux Technology Inc.. There are also PDA-based GPS receiver
manufacturers, including Mitac International Corp. and E-Ten.
eBon started producing
GPS receivers in March 2005, and produced about 80,000 GPS receivers
last year. All of these GPS receivers were exported. Bluetooth GPS
receivers account for 30 percent to 40 percent of the company's total
output. Sales of this line amounted to $1.8 million in 2005. The company
has a monthly capacity of 20,000 units. eBon expects to produce 180,000
Bluetooth GPS receivers in 2006.
ITer has two factories
in Dongguan, Guangdong that occupy a total area of 10,000sqm. The
company employs 500 production workers. Its average monthly capacity can
reach 100,000 GPS receivers. It has 10 R&D engineers for product
development. Its technology partners include Acon, MACS and Tkkeon.
YoungTek subcontracts
its production to two factories in the Hsinchu area in Taiwan. The
company can produce 50,000 units per month. It has 15 R&D and five QC
engineers.
